Russia is a country that is mostly in Asia and partly in Eastern Europe. Russia is the largest country in the world, covering more than one eighth of Earth's inhabited land area, and the ninth most populous, with over 146.6 million people at the end of March 2016. Higher Education in Russia

Russia has the most college-level or higher graduates in terms of percentage of population in the world, at 54%. The literacy rate in Russia, according to a 2015 estimate by the Central Intelligence Agency, is 99.7% (99.7% men, 99.6% women). According to a 2012 OECD estimate, 53% of Russia's adults (25- to 64-year-olds) have attained a tertiary (college) education, giving Russia the highest attainment of college-level education in the world; the OECD average is 33%. In 2016 the US company Bloomberg rated Russia's higher education as the third best in the world, measuring the percentage of high-school graduates who go on to attend college, the annual science and engineering graduates as percent of all college graduates, and science and engineering graduates as percent of the labor force.

Education System

Russia education system consists of elementary education (at least 5 years), Middle School (8 years), Secondary Education (the full 11 Years course).

Basic education stage comprises general basic education (1st-9th grade) and professional education. Secondary education level includes general secondary education, vocational secondary education and vocational training. Higher education degree includes both academic and professional study programs.

Student Life

Student life in Russia is very attractive, especially in famous cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg. They give students with lots of recreational facilities at any cost and time. There are endless options for recreation, including parks, sports complex, museums, and much more. Since there are a several courses taught in English, Russian language is generally not a hurdle for international students who wish to study in Russia. At the same time, studying Russian language is quite easy.

Work & Study: Almost all countries give you permission to work at your free time; hence you can be at your own and find work as internee or expert depending what back ground you are coming from.

Tuitions Fees

Tuition fees in Russia depend on the subject you choose to study, with some subjects like medicine costing more than others. As a guide, you should expect to pay between $4,000 - $8,000 per year for your undergraduate degree in Russia.


Students can easily find accommodation at the University hostels at reasonable costs with all the facilities required International students can also live with a Russian host family. This gives the best chance to blend with the Russian life style while you study in Russia. Students looking privacy may choose to rent an apartment which is fully equipped with basic living facilities.


Russia great expansions of culture, influence, and interest during the 16th–18th centuries brought more refined foods and culinary techniques, as well as one of the most refined food countries in the world. It was during this period that smoked meats and fish, pastry cooking, salads and green vegetables, chocolate, ice cream, wines and juice were imported from abroad.


Students with good achievements may be provided with incentive scholarships following their procedure prescribed by a respective school. Students meeting specific criteria established by the Government may also be provided with social scholarships.


Academic year is divided into semesters and holiday periods. The beginning and end of an academic year and a semester as well as holiday spans are established by each school of higher education individually. In summer students are entitled to at least one month uninterrupted holidays.
