Higher Education in Latvia

Latvia proudly holds the 2nd highest place in the world rank in number of students comparing to the size of the population.


Latvia is part of European Union and offers world class education in different study fields - Engineering, Medicine, Business, Tourism, Public Relations, Banking, Nature Sciences and Social Sciences. Latvia offers modern and safe study environment; internationally recognized academic staff; very competitive tuition fees, reasonable living costs and the degrees obtained in Latvia are recognized in all European Union countries.

Admission Information of International Students

  • Fill Application online on Talent Xperts Portal and attach all academic documents for assessment http://www.talentxperts.co.uk/student_form.php
  • Legally certified copies of official diplomas of previous education and transcripts of records; Legally certified translation in English of official diplomas of previous education and transcripts of records;
  • CV and personal motivation letter (in English);
  • Evidence of fluency in English (results of TOEFL or IELTS or other certificate) or previous education diploma with reference to English as Language of instruction or previous education diploma in English Philology;
  • Copy of the passport (with date of expiry in accordance with the Citizenship and Migration Affairs Office (CMAO) regulations);
  • Four passport size photos (3x4 cm).

In addition to Latvian is compulsory preschool education for 5-6 year olds.

Secondary education level includes general secondary education, vocational secondary education and vocational training. Higher education degree includes both academic and professional study programs.

Tuitions Fees

Tuition fees in Latvia depend on the subject you choose to study, with some subjects like medicine costing more than others. As a guide, you should expect to pay between €3,000 - €5,000 per year for your undergraduate degree in Latvia.

Accommodation

Most of the universities are providing Accommodation in dormitories, however you are free to find your own in City, which is very cheap.

Food

Latvian national cuisine has been formed under the influence of cuisines from the neighbouring countries and the meals served today are particularly rich in other nationality dishes.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Students with good achievements may be provided with incentive scholarships following their procedure prescribed by a respective school. Students meeting specific criteria established by the Government may also be provided with social scholarships.

ACADEMIC YEAR

Academic year is divided into semesters and holiday periods. The beginning and end of an academic year and a semester as well as holiday spans are established by each school of higher education individually. In summer students are entitled to at least one month uninterrupted holidays.
